Inova is seeking an experienced Advanced Practice Provider for the Cardiac Surgery program at Inova Heart and Vascular Institute.
Our Advanced Practice Providers manage both the Cardiovascular Intensive Care and Cardiovascular Stepdown Units for a program of approximately 1,800 cardiac cases a year, including CABGs, valves, Maze procedures, complex aortic surgeries (open and endovascular), ECMO, temporary and permanent ventricular assist devices, heart and lung transplants, and transcatheter valve procedures.
This is an APP-driven service with no residents or fellows. Our APPs independently manage complex patients from the ICU through discharge and perform invasive procedures, including central lines, arterial lines, pulmonary artery catheters, and chest tubes.
Excellent salary, plus evening, night, and weekend differential pay, time-and-a-half on holidays, generous CME, reimbursement for licensing, DEA, and society memberships/journal subscriptions.
This position is eligible for a $20,000 Sign-On Bonus! Advanced Practice Providers with at least two years of experience in cardiovascular surgery, thoracic surgery, or critical care are eligible to receive the bonus. Accepting the bonus requires a 1-year employment agreement.

Responsibilities
- Performs high-quality clinical practices and effective patient management, under physician supervision, in accordance with federal and state regulations, including primary and secondary specialty care in clinical and/or surgical practice settings.
- Demonstrates technical expertise with bedside diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
- Works a rotating schedule including nights, weekends, holidays.

Minimum Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program.
- Board Certified Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. Maintains necessary CME requirements.
- Preferably at least 1 year of experience in cardiac surgery, thoracic surgery, general surgery, cardiology, or critical care.
- ACLS Certification.
Preferred Requirements
The ideal candidate possesses:
- Several years managing cardiac surgical patients in an ICU setting, including those on ECMO and other mechanical circulatory support devices.
- Demonstrated proficiency with invasive procedures including arterial lines, central lines, pulmonary artery catheters, and chest tubes.
- Experience with bedside ultrasound for diagnostic and procedural purposes.
- Excellent communication skills and a team-oriented approach to care.
