Associate Nursing Officer for Cardiovascular and Neuroscience

Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) has retained Cejka Search to recruit an experienced nurse leader to serve as the Associate Nursing Officer (ANO) for Cardiovascular and Neuroscience for the Vanderbilt University Adult Hospital (VUAH).

VUMC has grown into one of the largest academic medical centers and health systems in the Southeast with over 1600 licensed beds in seven hospitals with 28,000 employees. VUMC is internationally recognized for its scientific discoveries, advancing clinical care, and academic training and mentorship through residency and fellowship programs.

Vanderbilt University Adult Hospital (VUAH) is a 750-bed, Magnet Designated, Level I Trauma, academic center that offers quaternary services to a diverse patient population through cutting edge technology and innovative care programs. Vanderbilt Heart and Vascular Institute and Neuroscience is the largest program in all of VUAH and treats some of the highest acuity and extremely complex cases in the country. The program boasts a national reputation in transplant making VUAH the #1 hospital in the world for heart transplants and #5 in the country for all transplants. VUAH is also recognized by U.S. News and World Report “Best Hospitals” Honor Roll in 2021.

Reporting to the Chief Nursing Officer of Vanderbilt University Adult Hospital, the ANO for Cardiovascular and Neuroscience will partner with the Associate Chief of Staff and the Associate Operating Officer to lead all operations for the inpatient services of Vanderbilt Heart and Vascular Institute and Neuroscience. The ANO will be instrumental in leading all nursing practices and have administrative oversight to align the institution with the mission and vision of VUMC and Vanderbilt Nursing. The ANO will lead the strategy and operations for the hospital’s intensive care unit, step-down and general care units, cardiac Cath and EP labs, telemetry, dialysis and inpatient neuro diagnostics. As a critical member of the leadership team at VUAH, the ANO will provide leadership and direction for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of activities within the heart and neuro segment as well as across the enterprise to ensure the highest level of achievement for performance in quality, service, people, finance, growth and innovation.

Successful candidates will have at least 10 years progressive leadership experience with a demonstrated knowledge and understanding of inpatient hospital services in an academic medical center or teaching hospital. A Bachelor of Science in nursing degree is required with a master’s degree in nursing, business administration or related field. Experience or strong knowledge of healthcare and clinical operations with a proven track record leading cardiovascular or neuroscience services is highly preferred.
