The Registered Nurse will assess, plan, implement and evaluate care based on age-specific components and assuming responsibility for the coordination of care focused on the transition through the continuum of care, patient and family education, patient self-management after discharge, and supporting factors that impact customer satisfaction. Considers all characteristics of the individual, including age and life stages, state of health, race and culture, values, and previous experiences. Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. Education: Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. License: Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Preferred Experience: BSN prepared Registered Nurse, Minimum of 3 years Inpatient and Outpatient Dialysis Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. You will assure compliance with standards and regulations related to clinical practice through audits, data collection, interpretation, and reporting of findings with appropriate recommendations. As the Registered Nurse - Hemodialysis you will demonstrate a high level of clinical expertise and leadership when assigned as Nurse Organizer providing care for patients with end-stage renal disease in the outpatient area and the complex care for patients in the inpatient area. You will perform patient assessments, review dialysis orders, Document physical and mental condition of patients through observations and interviews. You will document data to determine compliance to dietary or medication regimen, reviewing lab work with the team to develop patient care plans. Duties of the position include but are limited to; Initiate and administer hemodialysis treatment via catheters, grafts and fistulas, administer parenteral medications, fluid therapy and blood products. Perform Organizer Nurse duties for the daily operations of the 13- station outpatient area and the 4- station inpatient area of the dialysis unit. Perform hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and SLED treatments in the critical care areas for patients with acute and chronic renal failure. Perform emergency dialysis treatments when called back after hours and on weekends when designated as on call RN on a rotating basis. Provide patient and family education for both the outpatient and inpatient area in managing their disease. Monitor key performance indicators, including quality, patient safety, and patient family satisfaction. Assure that customers are treated in a professional manner with tact, courtesy, and respect. Supervises Medical Instrument Technicians and Certified Nurse Assistants during the daily operations of the dialysis unit for both the outpatient and the acute area. Collaborate with the transplant coordinator and the transplant center for those patients on the transplant list to assist and follow-up their case. Knowledgeable with the dialysis water treatment which comprises the pretreatment, water purification, and distribution. Will ensure equipment and processes used to purify water for the preparation of concentrates and dialysate follows the AAMI (Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation) standards Preferred Experience: While not a requirement for consideration or selection, applicants with the following preferred education/experience will be considered highly qualified, BSN prepared Registered Nurse Minimum of 3 years Inpatient and Outpatient Dialysis Such experience must be clearly identifiable in the supporting application documents.
