GENERAL DUTIES: Under the general supervision of the Director of Pharmacy Services, the Assistant Director of Pharmacy is responsible for the supervision and management of daily pharmacy operations and clinical activities. He/she provides integrated leadership to the department of Pharmacy Services while facilitating operational efforts, including (but not limited to): staff scheduling, performance evaluation and management, staff development, procurement of supplies and allocation of resources, oversight for clinical and distributive functions, regulatory and survey preparation, and assistance with operational budget and target initiatives. He/she acts as a liaison with other departments regarding pharmacy operations, assists in coordinating formulary management, drug utilization reviews, program expansion, experiential educational training programs (e.g. residency, clerkships, etc), in-service/education needs, and overall inter-department relations.
DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC DUTIES: 1. Practices pharmacy in accordance with all applicable regulations and upholds pharmacy policy/procedures as appropriate 2. Accurately and efficiently assesses drug therapy in relation to patient specific conditions. 3. Establishes and maintains professional relationships with colleagues, physicians and other care providers. 4. Defines department operations and assures responsibility for professional development. 5. Establishes standards/norms for clinical practice/patient care and evaluates opportunities that improve patient outcomes. 6. Demonstrates independent leadership and professionalism. 7. Plans, develops and maintains policies and procedures for programs that optimize the ability of clinical pharmacists to positively impact patient outcomes. 8. Facilitates quality initiatives that optimize care, establish evidence based medicine protocols, and impact safe medication use strategies. 9. Serves on hospital committees and projects as appropriate. 10. Ensures operational compliance with all regulatory agencies. 11. Maintains a professional practice environment that meets or exceeds national benchmarks for efficiency, safety, and related quality outcomes. 12. Mentors residents, students and pharmacists. 13. Supervises daily operations of pharmacy services. 14. Assists with interviewing, hiring, training, and evaluation of pharmacy personnel to maintain a productive, competent, and efficient staff mix. 15. Collaborates with appropriate entities that ensure fiscally responsible operational strategies while providing leading edge clinical programs that support physicians and hospital goals and objectives. 16. Assumes all responsibilities of the pharmacy director in his/her absence.
Required: Minimum 3 years Pharmacy practice. Minimum 2 years with management/leadership responsibilities. Demonstrated history of successful development, implementation and oversight of pharmacy programs. Valid CA pharmacy license in good standing CQI training or equivalent. Residency from accredited program. Doctorate in Pharmacy. BCLS
Preferred: ACLS MBA or leadership training Advanced pharmacy certification or specialized health care training
