Advanced Practice Registered Nurses / Physician Assistants
We are looking to expand our APP (advanced practice provider program) with experienced Hospitalist Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants to continue the care our of complex pediatric blood and marrow transplant (BMT) patients overnight. The APP will work independently with collaborate support of the BMT and Hem/Onc Physician Staff overnight. The APP will provide continuity in the evenings to the day time staff in order to optimize the safety and quality of care of our patients.
Roles and Responsibilities Include:
Covers the BMT service and chemotherapy patients overnight (3 nights/week) and is the primary person managing patient care issues for this group of patients in the hospital.
Provides primary care for BMT inpatients, oncology inpatients on NP service, and hematology service on NP service:
Assess patient’s status repeatedly as clinically indicated, including transfer to ICU if necessary
Orders and reviews labs and other diagnostic studies and procedures.
Review all labs and imaging results, manage fluid and electrolytes, and treat appropriately. This may include the start of antibiotics or other critical therapies, on floor or in the ICU, in consultation with the ICU medical staff
Seek nighttime consultation of ICU or surgical services, as well as consultation of other subspecialists as indicated.
Communicates results to patients in a timely manner.
Provides appropriate and timely documentation in EMR, including discharge summaries and admission h&p and orders.
Admissions from ER at night for BMT patients.
Manages the transfer of patients to and from the ICU at night for BMT patients.
Certified Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Certified PA. Currently registered District of Columbia license.
BLS and PALS certification desired
2+ year of experience with pediatric experience
Experience with high acuity pediatric patients
Skilled collaborating with a team and communicating with nursing staff and patients
Additional Salary Information: Salary is dependent on level of experience.
