Advanced Practice Registered Nurses / Physician Assistants
The Atlanta, GA VA Medical Center is searching for a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) to join their dynamic healthcare team.
•Perform anesthetic history and physical assessment of patients and documenting records
•Develop and implement an anesthetic plan in discussion with an anesthesiologist and document patient files and records
•Initiate the anesthetic technique which may include general or monitored anesthesia care under the supervision of an anesthesiologist
•Maintain anesthesia at appropriate levels, support life function during the perioperative period, take immediate corrective action while informing the attending anesthesiologist and surgeon ASAP of abnormal patient responses
•Provide direct professional observation and resuscitation until the patient has regained control of his/her vital functions
•Maintain a complete and legible documentation of the perioperative course on the anesthetic record
•Select, apply, and insert appropriate non-invasive and radial arterial lines and other monitoring modalities for continuous evaluation of the patient's physical status
•Facilitate emergence and recovery from anesthesia by selecting, obtaining, ordering and administering medications, fluids and ventilator support
•Initiate and administer respiratory support to ensure adequate ventilation and oxygenation in the post-anesthesia period by interpreting arterial blood gases and assessment as needed in discussion with an anesthesiologist
•Perform the postoperative evaluation and physical assessment of postoperative patients and document in the anesthesia record
•Respond to emergency situations inside and out of the OR
•Perform emergency intubation when needed. Maintain active Basic Life Support Certification and Advance Cardiac Life Support Certification Preferred Qualifications: 2 or more years’ experience working at a facility providing general anesthesia to a patient population primarily composed of ASA III and ASA IVs.
Work Hours: 7:00am - 3:30pm Monday through Friday. Call: 2-3 times per month. Weekend call is from home with a pager. Weekday call also required.
Salary Range: $130,000 - $190,000.00 per year Required Qualifications:
•Education: A degree in nursing from a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate state-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC), an accrediting arm of the National League for Nursing or (b) The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), an accrediting arm of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN). Additionally, applicant must be a graduate of an accredited nurse anesthesia educational program approved by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) at the time the program was completed by the applicant.
•Licensure: Current, full, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States or the District of Columbia. The nurse anesthetist must maintain a current, full, active and unrestricted registration to continue employment with VA.
•BLS and ACLS current certification required.
